Al is a geologist, and has been involved with Automated Mineralogy (AutoMin) for over 7 years. Prior to this, Al was a Jeweller and holds a Fellowship of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, which formed the basis of his mineralogical experience. As a student in Industrial Geology from the Camborne School of Mines in the UK, Al first became involved with CSIRO and the QEMSCAN Auto Min technology during his Honours thesis. This research was designed to develop a technique to mount samples of coal that would be suitable for analysis by AutoMin systems, and to establish a measurement methodology and coal/mineral database for QEMSCAN analysis. Following the success of this work, a series of papers were published on the techniques, and Al moved to Brisbane, Australia to aid in the establishment of Intellection Pty Ltd by CSRIO, to commercialise the QEMSCAN technology. During his time with Intellection, Al was involved with many aspects of the company, with roles including:
Geological and QEMSCAN consultant Application Development Training (including establishment of training material) Business Development and Sales Application Support Account Manager Customer Service Manager
Al has travelled extensively thanks to these various roles, and has been involved with AutoMin in a range of fields, including: mineral processing, mining, coal, oil and gas, environmental, criminal forensics and cement. He has core skills in the use and value of AutoMin, and its integration in to businesses to streamline processes and assist in solving key industry challenges.
